BI Training Workshop
Family Centred Practices Group is committed to providing quality services to families and their children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). As part of this commitment, we provide a two-day intensive workshop to every new Behavioural Interventionist (BI) hired by a family. In order to ensure quality services, it is mandatory that all new BIs attend the intensive two-day training. In addition to the training workshop, on-going, individualised training in the family home is provided for Behavioural Interventionists.
The first day of training begins with an introduction to principles of Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) and the A-B-C Model of behaviour and learning and how these relate to teaching young children diagnosed with ASD. In addition, the first day of training covers topics including the Family Centred Philosophy and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The primary focus of day one is on strategies to structure the environment for effective teaching and teaching in the natural environment.
The second day of training begins with reviewing the principles of ABA, the A-B-C Model of behaviour and learning, and use of reinforcement in effective teaching. The focus of the second day of training, however, is to introduce BI to structured teaching strategies.
During both training days, BIs are provided with the opportunity to watch videos, observe trainers model the strategies, practice the skills they have learned, and demonstrate their knowledge via a short quiz they will take at the end of each day.
